How Will You Stay #SummerStrong?
Hip Hip Hooray Summer is almost here!! I do not know too many people that don’t LOVE summer. In fact, I personally, don’t know anyone that doesn’t love summer!!
Summer is the season of SUN’S OUT, SCHOOL’S OUT, BATHING SUITS OUT, TIME TO PLAY!!
I actually find it easier to “stay on track” so to speak with healthy eating during the summer months. There are so many delicious fruits and veggies available. When it’s hot out, I think we (my husband and I) are less likely to over indulge in comfort, more filling, foods. It also seems that we are even more active in the summer months. I mean, our workouts pretty much stay the same, but our playtime becomes more active. We like to spend less time indoors and much more time outdoors. With friends and family making more frequent visits, there’s always somewhere to go. With daylight lasting until almost 9 pm during the summer, we are less likely to be home on the couch, in front of the TV, while there’s still so much going on outside. Again – yeah for summer!
With such an active lifestyle, we like to make sure we are fueling ourselves properly, especially knowing we have quite a few races coming up. I have read, and heard, that the way we replenish after a race or a long run can very much affect our next performance. I have always taken special care in our post race/workout recovery. We always try to have a protein smoothie of some sort as close to possible after our workout. I usually buy the kind they sell at Costco because it tastes good and is low in sugar.
Through my affiliation with Fit Approach and Sweat Pink, I was given the opportunity to try Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powders. I was sent an entire 4 pack, giving me a chance to try all the flavors. Bob’s Red Mill is also sponsoring my posts AND this giveaway! As usually, all opinions are my own and come from my own experience with this product.
I was already very familiar with Bob’s Red Mill products and I buy them often. Their selection of whole-grain flours and mixes are always on my shopping lists. What I did not know was that they produce more than 400 products including a full line of certified gluten free as well as a full line of certified organic products. I am familiar with a few of their Nutritional Boosters and have used some of the items you can find on this page such as their wheat germ and their wheat bran. New to me, however, are these new protein powders: Nutritional Boosters.
Upon opening my box of goodies, I noticed right away that Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powders had everything my usual protein powders offer PLUS much more! Here are some of the highlights:
- Plant Based
- Gluten Free
- Amino Acids
and check this out (stats from Chocolate Protein Powder but all flavors are similar):
- Protein: 20g per serving
- Fiber: 12g per serving
- Sugars: 2g per serving
Another little plus that was brought to my attention being involved in this campaign is that Bob’s Red Mill website has a COUPON page: Monthly Coupon I will make sure to check this from now on before I head to the store 🙂
So far, I have tried both the Chocolate Protein Powder and the Vanilla Protein Powder and can definitely give both my thumbs up! It mixed easily and tastes great! I have to admit that I usually am sort of partial to whey protein powders because they seem to be more tasty than some of the plant based ones I’ve tried in the past. Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powders, however, have a very good flavor and makes staying Proteined Up (that’s a word) easy while not being high on sugar. These protein powders are sweetened with Monk Fruit Extract which is sweeter than cane sugar but adds no calories and doesn’t impact blood sugar levels (source Bob’s Red Mill).
At the end of the month, I will be sharing another post with more protein drink recipes as I continue to experiment with my new Bob’s Red Mill Protein Powders. For now, I will leave you with this, the first one I made. I followed this recipe from the recipe card they sent me and it was delicious!
