Sand and Dirt – Beach to Trail
This past week has been such a fun week of running…..so fun that it barely felt like training!
Next weekend we’ll be running the SLO Half Marathon in San Luis Obispo (SLO). I ran it last year for the first time, it was my husband’s second time, and we enjoyed it so much. We are excited that, this year, it will be our oldest daughter’s first half marathon ever. Here’s last year’s San Luis Obispo Half Marathon Recap 2015
Now that we are living right in the heart of Laguna Beach, I have not been able to focus on any other type of exercise besides running. I also get in a lot of walking around here, but haven’t visited the gym for a couple weeks. I do have a yoga mat, an exercise ball, and some weights but haven’t really implemented an at-home regime yet. For now, I am just super excited about everyday exploring of my new surroundings.
Sunday, April 17
We decided to head out for a little beach run. It was a beautiful day and was really fun dodging the water while running along the shoreline. Having to jump onto rocks or stairs to stay dry made it feel more like an obstacle run.
5 miles of fun running on the beach.
Monday, April 18:
Worked all day – no running 🙁
Tuesday, April 19
Today was an extra cool day of running because we ran it beach-to-trail style. We took off running along with beach for 2 miles, then we ran the hilly streets of Laguna, then we entered Laguna Coast Wilderness Park for some trial running. It was fun hitting all the different terrains.

Quick run through the neighborhoods. I didn’t take pics – weird I know, but it was a 4.5 mile run. The streets around here are hilly so I ran pretty slow.
Thursday, April 21
Walked the streets. We just walked the streets for probably about 6 miles total by the time we were done. We ended up, conveniently enough, at Skyloft for Happy Hour and stayed until sunset. Cheers!

Beach play with the grandchildren
My daughter came down with her babies, our 4 year old grandson and 1 1/2 year old granddaughter. We had such a great time exploring the tide pools. So many cool sea anemones, crabs, barnacles, little fish, etc. There was a representative from the Crystal Cove Conservancy Ocean Institute giving out pamphlets and information to all the kids/parents regarding the tide pools of the Southern California coast. My grandson looked through it the rest of the day pointing out all the things he saw.
Saturday, April 23
Yesterday morning, my daughter came back down again to run her last long run before SLO Half Marathon next weekend. She really enjoyed our beach-to-trail run. We did the same run as earlier this week but this time, for a total of 10 miles.
