San Luis Obispo Half Marathon Training – Week 1
I have not followed a training plan for quite a while. I also have not raced since November because I haven’t been training to my full potential due to some sort of leg issue. I never really got to the bottom of the pain but am finally feeling strong enough to get back to training. When my leg bothers me, I try to take my mileage to the elliptical at the gym to lesson the leg stress. I’d rather be outside running any day of the week, but elliptical is better than nothing at all!
My target date is the San Luis Obispo Half Marathon which I will run on May 1st. I was fortunate enough to be chosen to represent this race again this year as a race ambassador (I will have a discount code shortly!). I really enjoy this race a lot as you can see here: San Luis Obispo Marathon & Half Marathon 2015 Review
Before the SLO Half Marathon, I will also be running Into the Wild Trail Run on March 17, and also the RnR Carlsbad 5000 20K (4 back-to-back 5ks in a row) April 3. I will also be publishing a discount code for all RnR races soon too! This will be my first year representing the Rock ‘n’ Roll Races Series and I couldn’t be more excited!! I will be running many of their events throughout the year. Join me!
My husband wrote my training plan for me and so far, I am liking it a lot!
My daughter and family will be joining us in San Luis Obispo for the race so she has been training with me as often as our schedules permit.
Monday, Feb 1
We drove down to the beach parking lot for 6 miles of speed work. It’s nice and flat there and there are not a lot of cars. Plenty of room to tear it up out there. I found it more difficult than I though to run a 1/2 mile full out. I can do 1/4 miles at a time but need to work on keeping pace for longer. We were switching back and forth from our 5k and 10k paces. 1 mile warm up and 1 mile cool down.

Since I was supposed to be doing core strengthening, I did one of the BeFit videos. They are really fun. They are short but feel very effective. More info here on my BeFit Giveaway page. If you haven’t already entered to win, there’s still time!
Wednesday, Feb 3
Well, my run did not happen as I spent the day at Disneyland with my daughter, grand kids, and my brother. He made a surprise visit out here, from NYC, to see us. We had a wonderful day.
Thursday, Feb 4
Tempo Run 5 miles. I have a wonderful 5 mile loop if I leave my front door and run through our regional park and back home again. If I need extra mileage, I can run around the lake a few times.
Friday, Feb 5
Progressive Run 5 miles
I did the same exact trail as I did on Thursday. I ran it slower though because I just couldn’t get going at a good pace. It was enjoyable nonetheless and the lake looked gorgeous at this time of day.
Saturday, Feb 6
Big fat nothing! I don’t even remember what I did with the day but I know I didn’t work out 🙂
Sunday, Feb 7
I spent the morning out at the Surf City Marathon & Half Marathon being a cheerleader with Team RWB. It was a wonderful morning. By the time I left, it was 80 degrees. I knew I had 7 miles on the schedule so I just stopped by the gym and knocked them out there. I like the elliptical because I feel like I get an all over body workout. I usually do 10 and 10. 10 incline, 10 resistance. That seems to give me a good workout. I need to get my time down to under an hour though so it quits shutting down on me!
My total mileage for the week was 23 miles.
I ended up not following the plan day-for-day but I did get all the workouts in in my own order.
I hope you all had a great week and have lots of fun things planned for your week ahead!
