(yes, there’s still time for you to get in on the muddy fun!)
10K, 5K, and 1K kids run
I signed up long ago so that I could get in on the first day, first heat which was June 6, 8:30 a.m. I was super excited to be in the very first group of runners to hit the World Famous Mud Pit! Every other year I’ve done this race, that time slot has been sold out.
We arrived 2 hours early as suggested, easily parked, and hopped on a school bus for a 5 minute ride to the start line.
It was nice being there early enough to walk around and see some cool stuff. I do love me some Marines!
This year, they added some stuff I didn’t know about so it was a pretty fun surprise…. except the tire flip…I never realized how heavy those tires were! Good thing there were Marines at the ready to lend a helping hand 🙂
You can see a description of the course above but the map does not do the course justice though. You really just need to run it! You can see more pictures on their site World Famous Mud Run. I wish I would have thought to bring a water proof camera. The course is pretty challenging and way hillier than I remember.
At the end of the race, we got to enjoy a sort of car wash experience with Dr. Bronner’s Foam Experience We got sprayed with water, then foamed up, then rinsed. It was pretty fun and got us fairly clean too.
The post-race Filthy Fun Fest is a really nice set up. It’s a great area for family members to hang out while they wait for their runners. They had barbeques going and lots of other food and drink choices. It was a nice warm (but not too hot) day and it felt great kicking back listening to the bands play.
And a play area for the kids
Here is my after picture – it doesn’t look nearly as muddy as I know I was during much of the race.
I placed 6 out of 57 in my division which is almost exactly what happened at my last half marathon. I am going to need to step it up to knock out 3 more people so I can place!
First Command Financial Services took before and after pictures for everyone and emailed them right out to us. That was really cool since we didn’t have our cell phones on us.
TeamRWB will be conquering World Famous Mud Run again next weekend, June 13. Have fun Team!
