As you may or may not know, concerts are my all-time favorite place to go. I want to jump right in to that portion of my Saturday but I did start my Saturday off with a beautiful 10 mile run starting in San Clemente and turning around in San Onofre. We got up and out the door by 7 a.m. which is way early for me but I knew it was going to be a scorcher of a day.
After our beautiful run, we got ready for our drive out to Devore which is about 90 miles from where we live. It was supposed to be in the high 90’s but we got lucky and it was only in the high 80’s but it was nice and breezy. This place is one of my favorite outdoor venues and holds most of the bigger festival type concerts. This particular one is called Rockstar Mayhem Festival (Hard Rock/Heavy Metal).
It started with side-stage bands at 1:00 p.m. but we didn’t get there until closer to main stage time. As much as I love these concerts, my husband only tolerates them for me so I didn’t want to push him by making him be there from 1:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m.
First band up was The Devilwears Prada. I think this was the first time I’ve seen them. Great way to get the main stage started and get me prepped for my favorite band of the night which was coming up next. TDWP put on a great show and I would definitely go see them again.
Next band, one of my favorites bands to see live HELLYEAH! I won’t go on and on here about the greatness of this band but I would like to say Vinnie Paul (Pantera) Chad Gray (Mudvayne) AMAZING! This was probably at least the 5th time I’ve seen them; I just can’t get enough!
Next up was King Diamond. First time seeing them. They seemed to be very popular with the crowd…although not probably a favorite of mine. I didn’t get any good pictures because the lighting was too crazy – but they did have a cool looking set.
Now, what you’ve all been waiting for…..our headliners of the night…all the way from 1981…rocking it heavy ever since….Slayer! That’s not really how they usually get introduced but I wanted to keep my post clean \m/\m/ Let me just say that KERRY is KING! So amazing!
Extra bonus to this festival are the great food stands. I enjoyed some delicious Mexican food and also tasty drinks. We were here last year…and many times before. Always a high energy show and I look forward to next year.
OK, that was fun now onto Sunday which was also a wonderful day! We drove up to Playa Del Rey where my youngest daughter and son-in-law live. They are expecting their first baby at the beginning of next year and we just found out about this last week. We are all just so excited we just wanted to go hang out with them and talk BABY!
We walked around the beach and into Marina Del Rey for dinner at El Torito. What a beautiful day BUT it was super windy on the water and we watched a boat, (a really nice sailboat) rescue go down! This sailboat had a broken sail and was being whipped around in the water and also coming way to close into shore. I was impressed at the fast action going on out there. A rescue boat came flying in at top speeds, the lifeguards all jumped in, the rescue boat threw a rope to the people aboard the sailboat….seriously just in the nick of time. A wave crashed against the side of the sailboat and it looked as if it was going to tip right over but, luckily, the rescue boat pulled it out of the danger.
What a wonderful weekend of Runnin’, Rockin’ and Baby Talkin’.
