SHORELINE HALF MARATHON July 13, 2014
Expo: Sports Authority 4870 Telephone Road, Ventura Saturday, July 12 from 10:00 – 2:00
This is the same place where we precarbed before the Mountains 2 The Beaches in May and will probably be where we go before The Ventura Marathon/Half Marathon in September. The food is delicious and service is wonderful. Although they have seating indoors, we like to sit in the outdoor sidewalk seating area. Here is a glimpse of my delicious pre-race meal…
After dinner we walked around area. Look at this cute Bed & Breakfast we saw
We stayed 4 miles from the start-line at The Resident Inn Marriott located at 2101 W. Vineyard Ave, Oxnard. I really like these rooms. They are timeshare condos. We used our Marriott points so it was as if it was free! It was nice to be able to wake up and make our own oatmeal in the kitchen and enjoy an entire pot of coffee with their full-sized coffee pot – better than 1 cup hotel pots!
Our unit was right at the edge of the golf course which was perfect when viewing the beautiful sunset
This race was a late start race – 8:00 a.m. I was glad about that because I LOVE to sleep and am NOT a morning person but on the other hand, I was worried about the heat. I made the mistake of running without a hat in effort to be cooler. Next race, I plan on wearing a visor so that my face can still be shaded but maybe my head will be cooler than wearing a hat?
This picture proves I need to train more! It was taken just prior to me being overtaken by the 2:00 pacer! (I ended with a 2:02)
I enjoyed this race! We ran along the boardwalk toward the pier, followed the bike path along the outer edge of a park then back to the boardwalk. It was a double loop which is kind of fun because we know what’s in store for us during the second half of the race! It was, indeed, a very hot race but breezy in some parts and did end at the beach. I always love a beach after-party!
