One of my all time favorite things about summer is outdoor concerts!! This weekend the Mayhem Festival kicked off its tour right here in Southern California! This concert was held in San Bernardino at The San Manuel Amphitheater in the hills of Glen Helen Regional Park. I had read somewhere that this venue was the largest outdoor concert stadium in the United States. I’m not sure if that is true but there seemed to be a bazillion rock/metal fans there!
There were 19 Hard Rock / Heavy Metal bands playing throughout the day. Starting at 1:00 pm there were three different alternating side stages. One of my favorite of these opening shows was Suicide Silence who I had just seen and enjoyed in May during their performance at the Golden Gods Award Show in Los Angeles.
There were so many people there and the crowd was wild and very ready for Suicide Silence to take the stage. The moment the music started everyone started slamming into each other. It was like the entire lawn was one big mosh pit! Usually that’s only right in front of the stage! I moved back, out of the way, but did enjoy their performance.
I also hung back in the crowd during Body Count Featuring Ice-T.
Main stage featured four bands. First one up was Trivium
First time I had seen them live and I thought they put on a great show! Great way to get the main stage rocking!
Next up Asking Alexandria also bringing it hard!
Next would be my favorite band of the day KoRn! I’ve seen them a few times and always enjoy their show! Today was no different. They sounded perfect!
Last but certainly not least….Headliner of the tour Avenged Sevenfold! After seeing them several times, I would say this was my favorite time! I had perfect viewing of drummer, Arin Ilejay, so amazing! I always enjoy watching the drummers. Because of the lighting though, I was not able to get any good pictures. It’s no wonder he took home the Best Drummer Award at the Golden Gods this year! btw…Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance also won Best Guitarist Award. A7X is really an amazing band that always delivers!
In between sets, the lawn crowd found ways to entertain themselves by making bon fires using their t-shirts to get the flames going………..
Show lasted until 11:30 pm and I’d say it was another great concert experience!

Next up….Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat, Hellyeah, and Nothing More!
