Rock n Roll San Diego Marathon and Half Marathon
So glad I got to actually run this race for my first time! I missed 2013 due to broken foot.
We stayed at the Marriott Gas Lamp, which was located 2.3 miles from the start line and only 0.5 mile from the finish line. Here is a nice view from our room….
The distance from the hotel to start line was the perfect warm up distance so we passed on the hotel shuttle and jogged to the start line.
I wished my marathon running friends a happy run, hit the bathrooms, then got in my corral for the half. I am not fast enough to have started in Meb’s corral (he paced the 1:30 group) bummer! but I still enjoyed the course. I felt it had more downhill than up so I was good to go. I did however think my pace was perfect for a sub 2:00 but instead ended with a 2:02. I was still happy. This was my 4th half in 15 days. I was so sweaty hot when I crossed the finish line! I ran back to my room, washed my face, then ran back to the finish line to cheer on the marathoners. I didn’t know until I saw it on Twitter that 91 year old, Harriette Thompson, had broken a marathon record here today by finishing in 7:07! She had started running this race at age 76. This was her 15th marathon in 16 years! Harriette is also a cancer survivor and runs every year to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Wow wow wow! Go Harriette!!
Perfect way to wind down another fun race day!
